Privacy Policy

Avvala Labs, Inc. (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Meera iOS app (“Meera” or the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and your rights.
By using Meera, you consent to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide, improve, and secure the App.
Information you provide:
- Email address (provided during account creation) and name (collected during onboarding).
- Onboarding and profile preferences: selections such as spiritual orientation, experience level, primary goals, reading pace, notification preferences, and similar choices (some optional). These are used only for personalizing your experience.
- User-generated content: journal entries and favorited verses.
- AI chat messages and conversation history.
- Reading activity: which verses you read and when (used to calculate streaks and show your progress).
- Device push notification token, but only if you choose to enable reading reminders.
We do not collect free-text fields beyond your journals and AI chats, nor do we collect advertising identifiers, location data, or any information for cross-app tracking.
AI Chat data sent to third parties:
When you use the AI chat feature (after giving explicit consent in the App), we send your chat messages, your name, and limited onboarding context (such as your language preferences or spiritual orientation) to third-party AI providers through OpenRouter. We do not send your journals, favorites, or other personal content. The specific AI models and providers may change over time.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To deliver daily readings, track your reading progress, and display your journals and favorites.
- To personalize the App based on your onboarding selections.
- To send optional reading-reminder push notifications (you can turn these off anytime).
- To generate AI chat responses (only after your explicit consent).
- To manage subscription features (free plan message limits vs. Pro plan).
- To maintain service quality and prevent abuse.
- To improve the App overall (we currently use no third-party analytics tools).
- To send you updates about Meera and related content (you can opt-out at any time).
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data.
We share information only with service providers who help us operate the App (such as authentication, database hosting on AWS US-East, and AI response generation). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.
For AI chat, limited data is shared with third-party AI providers (via OpenRouter) only after you explicitly consent. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple; we do not receive or store your payment information.
We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.
4. AI-Specific Practices
Your AI chat conversations are private and visible only to you. You must give explicit permission in the App before any message is sent to an AI provider. AI responses are generated using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) grounded in the Bhagavad Gita content we own, but they are still AI-generated and may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete.
Disclaimer: AI responses are not a substitute for professional, religious, medical, or spiritual advice. Interpretations of the Gita are AI-generated and may vary. Please consult traditional sources or qualified teachers for guidance. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or orthodoxy of any AI output.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your data only as long as necessary to provide the App or as required by law.
You can delete individual journals, favorites, or entire AI chat threads directly in the App. You can also delete your full account with one button. Upon account deletion, we delete your personal data from our active systems. We may maintain backups for disaster recovery; any deleted data in backups will be removed during routine backup cycles.
6. Your Rights
You can:
- Access or correct your information through the App.
- Delete journals, favorites, AI chats, or your entire account at any time.
- Turn off notifications or withdraw consent for AI chat in the App settings (this prevents future messages from being sent to AI providers until you re-consent).

7. Children’s Privacy
Meera is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hi@avvalalabs.com.
8. Geographic Restrictions
Avvala Labs, Inc. is based in the United States and Meera is designed for users located in the United States. We do not intentionally target or collect information from individuals in the European Union, European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom. If you access the App from outside the United States, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with your local laws.
9. Security
We use reasonable security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is completely secure.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of material changes in the App and/or by email. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
